“FREE” Vegas?

April - 24 - 2008 Reporter: Treena

Many people are under the assumption that while in Sin City, they can enjoy all sorts of “free” things while enjoying their stay. I have discovered the age old adage is very true. NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE!

Prime example of this are the cocktails that are provided by all the casino’s while you are gambling. Whether it is the ever popular slots, or any of the table games, all the casino’s offer “ free “ beverages as long as you are gambling. It is my opinion that if you want to enjoy some drinks while in the casino, it is far more economical to sit at any of the bars and pay for your drinks. The average gambler is spending between $20 – $40 USD per hour while on the casino floor. If you play for 4 hrs, your “free “drinks are now costing you $160. Could you drink that much alcohol in 4hrs? If you can, you are a more seasoned drinker than I. I discovered that I spent, on average at the bar, about $10 per hr. A substantial savings to be sure. Granted, you are not gambling, which you may be there to do, but it is still the better deal to sit and have some cocktails and socialize, then play a machine and try to do the same.

All the casinos also offer “free” swag, and money back offers on your player’s cards. While I think the cards are fabulous idea, a “free “dinner usually ends up costing me around $500 USD. While I enjoy the concept of receiving something for spending money I am going to spend anyways, I certainly don’t plan any evenings on what I could possible get for “ free “. The cash back offers, while nice, can end up costing me around $1000 for a “free “night at the casino. Is this really a saving?

To make a long story short, nothing in, on or about Sin city is free, but oh what a wild ride it does provide. The thousands of dollars that I regularly donate on my trips there are well worth it, and I will do it again in a heartbeat. Do I enjoy all of my “free “stuff? ABSOLUTELY! I just need another job to pay for it :)
