5 tips to finding the best hotel rate in Las Vegas

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Have you ever wondered how your buddies always seem to get the exact same hotel room as you, but at a serious discount?

I have come up with a few tricks that usually get me better rates than the average person.

  1. Search the web. I usually start with the hotels that I am targeting to stay in. There are usually about a half a dozen that within any given block. Then I just let my keyboard and mouse look for deals.
  2. Big travel site like Travelocity or Expedia can sometimes be your best bet. This probably only works about 1 in 6 where they actually list lower rates than the casinos themselves. Still worth the few minutes it takes.
  3. Hotels.com I actually really like this service. Basically they search an entire city or country whatever you choose, in a matter of minutes. Checkout the script below for Las Vegas you can pick dates and hotel ratings. Good service.
  4. Las Vegas (Nevada) Hotels by HotelsCombined.com

  5. Travel packages, a few years back this used to be the only way to travel to Vegas. They would book air and hotel for a group and then provide individuals with a lower rate than you could get by yourself. Nowadays I say it’s about 50/50 whether you are going to get a lower rate. My advices either do your homework or pay for the convenience.
  6. “Casino rates” if you are a player that has traveled to Vegas before this is the only way to go. The only stipulation is that you have to have the Casino’s player’s card and have played a moderate amount on it. If you have, then what you do is phone the Casino and tell them you are a player and ask what “Casino rate’ you qualify for. Trust me this one ALWAYS gets me the best rates.

There you have, it my top 5 tips. Do you have one that I have missed? Let us know in the comments

Fremont Street or The Strip? (Part 2)

Yesterday, we examined the pros and cons of staying on Fremont. Today we will discuss The Strip.

History

The mother of the strip is the El Rancho Las Vegas which opened her doors on April 3rd 1941 with a grand total of 63 rooms. A couple of years later a fellow by the name of “Bugsy” Siegel opened the Flamingo and the Strip has been getting bigger and better ever since. Well, at least bigger.

The mega-resorts of today arrived in the early 1990’s. They along with their fabulous properties have led to a destination like no other. The Strip is an entity onto itself. Honestly, where else in the world can you visit New York, Ancient Egypt, Rome, Paris, Venice and more, all in one day.
