These are a few questions I get asked a lot. Should I stay on Fremont Street or the Strip? What has more to offer? Is the strip too crowded?
It would seem that these two destinations are causing a little bit of a dilemma for travelers. Over the next few posts, we are going to attempt to list the pros and cons of both areas. Armed with the right information, your decisions shouldn’t be nearly as difficult.
Fremont Street
A history
Established on May 15th 1905, by a railroad land auction, Fremont Street is where the legend began and the original Las Vegas started. Fremont Street has been the site of numerous “firsts” in Las Vegas:
- First paved street (1925)
- First Nevada gaming license – issued to the Northern Club at 15 E. Fremont St.
- First traffic light and first elevator (the Apache Hotel in 1932).
- The first high-rise (the Fremont Hotel in 1956).
- The Horseshoe was the first casino to install carpeting, while the Golden Nugget was the first structure designed from the ground up to be a casino.

The Stratosphere is a little intimidating for anyone with a little fear of heights and absolutely terrifying for those with a big dose. At 1149 feet, the Stratosphere Tower is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States and the tallest building west of the Mississippi.
On the roof of the enormous building you will find the exhilarating Big Shot. From a platform that is already 921 feet in the air 16 people are strapped in to the ride and shot skyward 160 feet. At speed of 45 miles an hour straight up, the thrill seekers will experience a gut-wrenching four ‘G’s of force on the way up, and feel negative ‘G’s on the way down as your legs dangle in the Las Vegas skyline.
Sounds like fun? Here are some youtube vids to help with your imagination.

If you are planning a trip to Las Vegas you need to know about comps. Let’s face it Sin City is not cheap, and most people are trying to get the most bang for their buck. This is where comps or complimentaries come in. As with everything in Las Vegas, these come in many shapes and forms. Some people are comped a key chain and some are comped a plane ticket and penthouse suite.
Comps are the freebies that Casinos like to give to their guest, in return for your gambling business. It is relatively easy for everybody to enjoy a few of these comps. It is common practice to receive a free buffet ticket upon check-in, and if you spend any time at all on the Casino floor you will soon realize that beverages are free for players.
