Sportsbooks

The bias viewed toward Las Vegas and gambling never ceases to amaze me.

On a recent trip to Sin City I went with one of my buddies. We normally get together once a week or so to go watch a game at the local watering hole. My buddy is great guy but he chooses not to gamble, which is fine, he believes his hard earned money is too precious to gamble. I assured him that that was absolutely OK and that Vegas is not just gambling. We were planning on just hanging out and playing a few rounds of golf.

On our second night in Sin City there was a great Hockey game scheduled so I suggested that we spend a couple hours in the Sports Book and watch the game. My buddy immediately got a little angry and told me he was not here to gamble. It took me half an hour to convince the poor guy that you could go to the Sports Book and NOT gamble. He ended up giving in and we had a great night in the Sports Book catching not one but actually 4 games, all at the same time.

As far as I know there is no law that you have to gamble the second you get off the plane in Las Vegas. So remember just because gambling is offered in an establishment doesn't mean you are commited to playing. Relax enjoy yourself.
