Do you buy your beer or get it free?
Here is the question. Is it better to buy your own beer or wait for the comped beer?
It seems like every time I go to Las Vegas this question seems to arise. My travel companions are of 2 mind sets. One thinks that the high life is great. What is better than sitting at a slot machine or table and having someone bring you free alcohol? Of course, I use the word free here meaning that you aren’t being charged for the drink, I still believe that you should pay for the service. If a pretty lady is kind enough to bring you a drink, cough up the dollar so that she can feed her kids. Ok, enough preaching.
I have another set of friends, usually the ones who are not that good at gambling, that believe that they actually save money by going to the bar and paying the $5. They have a point. Especially, at the slot machines, it is very easy and conceivable to spend $20 in the 10 minutes you are waiting for a beer. While my first set of friends have a valid argument in saying that you could win $20 in that 10 minutes.
So where do you stand?
For, what it’s worth here is my two cents. I think that for those that are waiting “too long” for their drinks they should try a new mindset. Try tipping that pretty girl more than a quarter, and I can guarantee that you will always have a drink. I usually will tip at least a dollar a drink but… if I am thirsty I may start out with $5 a drink. Try it. I guarantee that the waitress will always make sure that you have a full drink. As for losing at the slot machines, this is Las Vegas baby if you are planning on winning every time you sit down to gamble, wake up! Instead sit back enjoy yourself! You are on vacation in the greatest city in the world.
