What is the best way to travel around Las Vegas?

I recently was asked what was the best way to get from the Strip to Fremont Street, while you are staying in Las Vegas. I decided to take it one step further and discuss what is the best way to get around Las Vegas period.

Take a Cab

First off if you are if you staying on the Strip it will be about a $20 cab ride each way to Fremont Street. As I usually travel with at least 4 people the $5 a head is no big deal for us but, if you are having issues with that, here are a few other options.

Take the “Deuce”

The double decker bus that travels up and down the Strip and goes to Fremont is nicknamed the Deuce. It’s $5 for a day pass. You can catch the bus at just about any major hotel on the Strip. Ask your concierge where the nearest bus stop is. One of the downsides to catching a bus is that it is on a schedule and it does shut down (I believe that it closes at 1am). Here is the schedule.

Using the Monorail

As for getting up and down the Strip, take the monorail. It is not perfect, I would like to see more stops, but it can save you a lot of time and money if you buy the day pass. Here are the particulars:

Hours of operation:

7:00am to 2:00am Monday through Thursday, and
7:00am to 3:00am Friday through Sunday.

Fare:

Pay $5 for one ride,
$9 for two rides or
$35 for 10 rides.

Take a free shuttle.

This is pretty self explanatory.

Take a walk

Maybe it’s because I’m cheap, or a runner, I’m not sure but I don’t mind walking just about everywhere I go in Las Vegas. Yes, there are exceptions. I won’t walk to Fremont Street; it really is not the safest or most enjoyable walk. I also cut back on my miles during the summer months, when it is 120 degrees out. But, outside of these exceptions I will try to walk, it is my belief this is the only way to see the true Las Vegas up close and personal.
