Mob Museum one step closer to reality
The city of Las Vegas is looking to add a “Mob Museum” to its already impressive list of entertainment. Officials have now pledged $800,000 to the project, which is to be opened in a historic downtown Las Vegas post office.
The focus of the museum will be to showcase southern Nevada's colourful and lore-filled Mafia past without glorifying the organized crime.
"There's no other museum like this," said Ellen Knowlton, the former head of the Las Vegas FBI office and current president of the non-profit organization working with the city to open the museum.
The old post office is located on Stewart Avenue next to the shuttered Lady Luck Casino. The 76 year old building was also the city’s first federal courthouse and will need extensive renovating to make it available to the planned 1 million visitors every year.
