Las Vegas celebrates New Years
Nearly 300,000 people were expected to ring in the New Year in Sin City. They were expected to spend nearly 212 million dollars during their weekend stay. Which is roughly $700 per person for a weekend in Las Vegas; although this price does not include hotel room and gambling money it still seems like a reasonable enough amount for a New Years in Las Vegas.
I constantly hear how Las Vegas has started to price itself away from the middle class patron. Assuming of course, that middle class still exists in a world that seems to have an increasing gap between have and have not’s. Las Vegas used to be a cheap weekend getaway that catered to the working stiff. But, it also used to be nothing more than a watering hole in the middle of the desert.
While an average door charge at a Las Vegas nightclub over the New Year’s weekend was about $250, I think you can argue that the average charge at nightclub in New York or LA are more. The same can be said for a 5 star restaurant. Most 5 star Vegas restaurants were charging around $800 for a multiple course dinner and wine experience, but what were your local restaurants charging? And are they comparable to Guy Savoy at Caesar’s Palace.
