8 Ways to find time for a Vegas weekend.

So here I am desperately in the need of something to get my New Years going. I think I am starting to get the winter blues as it has been snowing here (in Canada) for the last couple of months and I am sick of the ice and snow. I need a trip to Vegas. But how? As with most people these days it is easier said than done. So I decided to come up with some rock solid ideas to make a little weekend jaunt possible.

Plan your week in advance.

This is the one that works for me the best. I spend a lot of my week writing blogs or designing websites. The bottom line is the work has to get done. So whether I am writing or coding once a day or cramming it all into the beginning of the week to make room for the weekend doesn’t matter as long as everything gets done.

Shuffle your work week with a co-worker.

Although I do stay at home and work I also have a real job. So, the strategy that works best for me is shuffling around my schedule with others. It is helpful if you have helped your co-worker out in the past. I find it’s an “I’ll scratch your back if you will scratch mine” attitude with most people these days. So remember that, the next time somebody asks you to cover a shift for them.

Phone in sick from Las Vegas

This is one I haven’t used yet but if you need a little Vegas time and there is no other way, this will get the job done. Alternate excuses are my wife (husband) is sick, kids are sick, grandparents unhealthy. Note: Use sparingly.

Actually book your holidays

This may be a little obvious to people but, it is amazing to me the number of people who are actually storing up days off. Whether they be lieu days or holidays they are only good to you if you use them.

Suck up to the in-laws for some babysitting time

Here is one that always gets me. As far as I am concerned Las Vegas is an adult Disneyland. No kids on my trip to Sin City. So here is the dilemma, what to do with the kids? The answer: Relatives of course. So remember to be extra nice at the dinner table the next time the in-laws are over, you may need them in the near future.

Quit your job

Ok. Here is the situation. You need some serious Vegas time and “Joe boss” doesn’t give a rat’s a$$. Your choices are pretty simple, keep working for the ignorant jerk or quit.

Stop doing housework

Ok, so I am stretching a little here. But, it is mind boggling to me the amount of time spent doing housework. I mean if you stopped just for a week I am sure you could have a great weekend in Vegas instead. Just a thought.

Just do it BABY

I guess it comes down to how much you need a break from the daily grind. The bottom line is if you need to getaway; find a way to make it happen. These are just a few thought to get the ball rolling. I would be interested to hear some of your own thoughts on the subject. Comments are welcome.
