I am on my way to Las Vegas next, and this time I absolutely need to have a great steak dinner.

As there are so many places to choose from I decided to pose this question here on the blog and see what steakhouse other people have tried and recommend.

So what do you say? Where is the best steak?

Is it Flemings? Craftsteak? Emeril Lagasse's? Lawry's?

I am interested to know.

Las Vegas savings and stuff

It seems like everything involving travel is starting to get expensive. Airlines are now charging for baggage and some of them even charge for a window seat. With the rising cost of fuels getting to and from Las Vegas is going to become interesting.

US Airways has cut its flights to and from Las Vegas by nearly half (from 141 flights down to 74) with more airlines sure to follow.

Here is some advice to help you save time and hassle when traveling to Sin City.

First off, it's Las Vegas and you do NOT need to bring everything and the kitchen sink. Seriously, travelling light through airports will save you time and now money. If you just have to have all that stuff one of the best piece of advice I can give you is use FedEx or UPS. With airlines now charging for baggage, you probably aren't going to pay anymore for courier PLUS the courier will take it right to your hotel. Another bonus is you actually get insurance on your luggage from a courier plus they can usually tell you Exactly where your bags are. Have you ever had an airline "misplace" your baggage? Trust me it's not a fun thing.

So with air travel costs rising to Sin City it is inevitible that the hotels are going to be coming up with some pretty amazing specials to fill their rooms. Keep your eyes open if you are planning to go soon as I will be publishing deals as they come across my desk.

More about a Vegas Fathers Day

I have been meaning to get back to this post for a while now but….sometime life happens.
Anyways, as you can tell it has been a hectic week and one of the things I and most Fathers need at the end of a long week is a good drink. So why not take your Dad on a good old fashioned pub crawl through Vegas?
Actually you may not want to use the word "old" this weekend and the word "pub" hardly applies to some of these place but you get the idea.
To say Las Vegas has a lot of bars is definitely a huge understatement… So to make things a little easier I decided to group this post according to drinks. So in no particular order here are the best places ( by drink) that you can take Dad.
Vodka
The Red Square at Mandalay Bay is amazing. Not only was it voted the best bar in America by Playboy it is known as the best vodka house in town. With over 200 vodkas, you are virtually guaranteed that they will have Dad's drink.
Wine
The Vox Lounge is my favorite. Not because they are going to have the largest wine list but.. because they offer the best wine with the least amount of snobbery possible. In fact, if you have an interest in wine they offer "classes" on Saturday that will help you learn more about wine and cuisine. Great place.
Beer
You can get a beer anywhere, so what you are looking for here is a beer drinking room. And I have not found a better place to drink a beer than a good pub. My favorite? Quinn's Irish Pub at the Green Valley Ranch Casino. They have great beer, a great band( Darby O'Gill and the Little People) and Wednesdays beer games.
Martini
The "it" drink for the new generation is martinis and they have become as popular as cocktails. The only problem? Most bars can't make a martini to save their life. Not so, at Firefly. They have some of the best bartenders in the world, so if you think there isn't a difference when it comes to a martini, I dare you to give them a try.
Scotch
Scotch is a drink that you acquire a taste for. A once you have it, you a very particular. Therefore, if Dad likes scotch you better make sure you can get his brands wherever you take him. Ironically enough the best place I know of is in a french place. Napoleon's Bar in the Paris offers an impressive list even by the most discerning scotch drinkers standards.

Trust me when I say you can get a drink ANYWHERE in Las Vegas, make sure you make father's day special and take Dad to one of the places I have mentioned.

Las Vegas and Fathers Day

This is a topic I feel pretty comfortable wrting a post on. After all I am a dad and I am a fairly seasoned traveler. Especially where Las Vegas is concerned.

So if you are have a dad or a husband that are anything like me I am sure you have been asking yourself what the heck do I get him for Father's day? Unfortunately, there is no easy answer that I can give you but…. I can certainly give you a few good ideas.

The most obvious coming from a Las Vegas blog is send him to Las Vegas. Which while not being a bad idea it is only about half of a good idea. A better idea is send him to Las Vegas but give him some things to do while he ,or if you are going with him, while you are there.

Now to get things started off, I am not going to give you any "event" ideas today I'll save those for the coming week. I will however give you a coupon code to save you some money when it comes to booking the trip.

Book Flight + 4-Night Hotel to Cancun or Vegas and Save $75 When Using your MasterCard> PROMO CODE: SAVE75

Also if you absolutely must find something today Chitika may be able to help you find something to your dad's liking. See the banner at the top of this post.

If not you'll just have to check back in tomorrow to see what type of special events we come up with at Me On Neon.

New Poll!

I started a new poll today. I am curious to see what people are playing in Las Vegas these days. It seems like every time I go the slots machines are the clear winners yet when I talk to people most of them claim to play the table games.

For me, I guess I have to admit that I spend most of my time on the slot machines but… I have been known to waste quite a few hours at a good craps table.

It is interesting to note that "Gaming Today" (a free newsletter you can find in most casinos) has reported that this is the first year that a whopping 68 percent of slot managers sadid that they would either decrease the number of machines on the floor or they would remain the same. Needless to say the industry is expecting virtually no growth over a year ago.

What do you think?

What happening in Las Vegas for the weekend of May 23rd -25th.

With this being a long weekend Las Vegas is gearing up for some serious fun.

I was looking around town to see what would be fun to do and here are a few ideas to try. First, off the MGM Grand hands down has the best weekend booked. I mean this hotel knows how to throw a mean party.

MGM-Grand.jpg

On Friday the 23rd The Police are playing. I know this brings me back to my hay day (or is it hey day?) but Synchronicity has to be one of the best albums EVER made.

So they kick off the weekend with a great concert and then they manage to bringing the hottest event in town UFC. I know this stuff is a little brutal for some but I love it, and I hope Sherk dismantles Penn. I am calling it right now if Sherk is winning watch for BJ to “accidentally” give Sean a thumb in the eye. I mean seriously when are they going to deal with this guy?

OK so Friday is the concert and Saturday is the fight so what do you do on Sunday? Watch a great comedy show , right? How does Robin Williams sound? Ya, that’s right MGM manages to finish off the weekend with Robin Williams, outstandng!

If you haven’t booked anything yet you better get your butt in gear and hurry up. There are a few sales on right now that may be worth looking at. I know Virgin America has a seat sale on but whether they have availability is anyone's guess.

One-Way Flights starting at only $56 during Virgin America's Summer Sale - Expires: 5/23/08

Also here are a couple of savings from Travelocity I managed to find:

Good luck and have fun!

Las Vegas still a deal?

There has been a lot of talk these days whether Las Vegas and more specifically whether gambling is recession proof.

With gambling revenues and hotel occupancy down and in some cases drastically so, Las Vegas is definitely starting to feel the economic sting. A lot of pundits may say that Las Vegas is slowing because the economy as a whole has slowed.

But, if that is the case then why is Disneyland doing so well?

The answer is so simple it is mind boggling as to why the CEO’s in charge of these billion dollar corporations can’t see it. Las Vegas has become EXPENSIVE; in fact it has become ridiculously expensive.

While Las Vegas has been busy up scaling it’s restaurants and hotels, Disney has been doing the exact opposite. This is the reason why Walt Disney Co.'s theme parks and resorts have enjoyed surprising success. They reported second-quarter earnings up by 22 percent from a year ago, to $1.13 billion, or 58 cents a share. Analysts had been expecting 51 cents a share.

So, what can we expect to see from Sin City in the coming months? Well, I hope we see a total revision of their business, but the reality is they probably will just spend more on marketing. Although I do expect to start seeing some VERY good deals for hotel rates in the near future, I would be happier  if they would start downscaling and making Las Vegas once again a place where you can get a burger if you like for $5.

I guess only time will tell. But, in the mean time keep your eyes open for some good deals. Here is one for my readers to enjoy.

Favourite Las Vegas Flick

Ok, last night I was watching the tube, when I stumbled across a showing of my favourite Las Vegas flick. Can you guess what it is?

Surprising enough, it is not one of the first films you may think of when you say Las Vegas movies. And I would definitely be hesitant to name it a classic. But, none the less I have to admit it is my favourite. Here is a quick clip for you to enjoy!

That’s right my favourite Las Vegas movie is Ocean’s Eleven. I don’t know why it just really epitomizes Sin City for me.

Ocean's Trilogy (Ocean's Eleven / Ocean's Twelve / Ocean's Thirteen) [HD DVD]

Do you have a favourite? Why not add it to the comments and let us discuss it?

Las Vegas updates

ceasars-colosseum2.jpg

I would like to welcome those readers that have not previously visited Me On Neon. I hope you enjoy your stay. As for those that have visited before I would like to welcome you back and apologize for the big gaps in post lately.

So what has been going on with Sin City lately, well considering the city never sleeps, an awful lot. Here are a few highlights.

Toni Braxton who was scheduled to perform at the Flamingo has been pushed back for at least a month.  Although spokespersons cannot comment on Braxton’s medical condition, the show has been cancelled since April 7th when the singer was hospitalized with chest pain. If all goes well expect to see Toni back on stage on June 6th.

On a happier note Jimmy Buffet and his band The Coral Reefer band are set to perform this fall in Las Vegas. Dates for the event are October 18th and 25th at the MGM Grand. Tickets are available at PurchaseTix.com. I already have mine for the 18th; maybe I will see you there.

So what are the top shows to see? The hottest acts in town right now are a threesome of old staples. Not necessarily in order here are the hottest sellers at the moment:

Blue Man Group

Monty Python’s Spamalot

Penn & Teller

This honestly surprises me, I thought everyone would have seen Blue Man and Penn & Teller by now. As for Monty Python, I only managed to see it on my last trip.

Until next time, have fun and remember to gamble within your limit!
