The Most Searched Summer Destination

As outlined by a recent report in Vegas Inc., searches on well-known travel website Kayak.com indicate that Vegas could possibly be just about the most popular holiday destinations this summer. During the months from March to May, as many as 228,818 queries were conducted for travel to Las Vegas between the months of June and August. Overall, 7.36% queries on Kayak.com were for Las Vegas. As per the site, New York, Chicago, Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco were the top 5 cities from where travelers conducted searches for Las Vegas. Having so much available in one place, it’s hardly a surprise that Las Vegas is among the top summer time destinations in the country.

What Makes Vegas the Top Holiday Destination?

It is difficult to identify everything that the city has to offer here, but the attractions might be broadly divided into those on the Las Vegas Strip, those off the Strip and must visit spots near the city. Las Vegas Strip is a 6.8 Km stretch of road that houses some of the best and most popular casinos, hotels and resorts across the world. The strip is almost always the first stop for vacationers on a holiday to Vegas. If you love modern architecture, you’re sure to be delighted as the buildings on this boulevard are absolutely spectacular.  A few of the attractions on the Strip include the fountains at Bellagio, the auto collections at Imperial Palace, the fashion show mall, show in the sky at Rio, famous Madame Tussauds Museum, Circus Circus and many others.

Off the Strip, you can experience race car rides or check out the botanical park and other unique museums like Las Vegas Natural History Museum, Nevada State Museum and Neon Museum and Boneyard. Aside from the long list of attractions within the city, there are a variety of must visit places a short distance out of the city such as the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Zion National Park plus more.

It occurred to me though that this may be easier said than done. There are a lot of questions that remain un-answered before I can actually play. Such as who, what, where and why.

Who

I fancy myself as a pretty decent card player but, if Chris Moneymaker, Daniel Negreanu, or Annie Duke are at the table, I ‘m thinking maybe not this time. I will be looking to try my skills against the casual player not a pro.

What

This is really important. Although most players only play Texas Hold’em there are so many variations of poker that it is easy to mistake one for the other. The last thing I want is to buy in and find out that I am playing a game I am not as familiar with, strictly Texas Hold’em for me.

Where

Ok, this is the hard one. There are so many events that it makes it hard to choose. Seriously, after doing some research I found that there is literally a tournament scheduled nearly every hour of every day. There are so many that I will have to devote some more posts just analyzing each one. For now I would like to keep my buy ins to around $100. Arnold Snyder has put together a nice list of tournament and rates them at his website, definitely worth looking at.

Why

Why am I playing? Good question, I guess the ultimate answer is I want to see how good I am. It is pretty easy to read players after seeing them a few times, so the weekly games with the boys (or girls) are not much of an indication of where my skills lie. Vegas is, and probably always will be, where the real players go to play. There can be no better measuring stick.
