History

The 42 acre property first opened in July of 1963 as the Bonanza Hotel and Casino. It was later reconstructed in 1973 as the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino with 2,084 rooms, the largest hotel in the world at that time.

On November 21, 1980 a fire broke out in the Casino. The fire traveled into the hotel tragically killing 87 guests and employees. The fire was, and still remains, the largest disaster in Nevada history in terms of loss of life. Amazingly, the facility was rebuilt in only eight months.

In 1985 the hotel was sold to Bally Entertainment Corporation and the property’s name was changed to Bally’s.

Summary

Bally’s is a top notch facility that has the perfect location on the Strip. Although small by Vegas standards it offers visitors all the amenities needed to enjoy your stay.
Personally, this is one of my favourite hotels to stay at. It is to date the only place I have received a free room upgrade, from standard to a junior suite, for no extra charge. The walkway from Bally’s to the Paris is like no other, it is lined with French shops and restaurants, and is a must see during your stay.
